A new beginning

Hi all! My name is Hernando Díaz, I’m a new blogger here on worldcupblog.org and I will be writing about Colombian National Team and the South-American World Cup Qualifying round. So let’s get started.

After the America Cup deception, where Colombia gave a really poor performance, losing 2 (5-0 against Paraguay and 4-2 against Argentina) of their 3 games (the other one was a victory over USA) and failing to get into the second round, everyone was disappointed and I could bet there were no hopes in our chances to qualify to the 2010 world cup. Ivan Córdoba, Mario Yepes, Miguel Calero, and others were dropped out of the team by Jorge Luis Pinto, who explained that they lost their chance to get into the team who will play on the qualifying round to the word cup and that was a blow for many people.

Unexpectedly, everything changed after the first 2 games of the current World Cup Qualifying round, where Colombia played against Brazil (home) and Bolivia (away) just a couple of weeks ago. Colombia draw both games (0-0) but the team played good football and had some chances to win both games. A lot of players draw the plaudits from critics, but the ones with an outstanding performance were:

• The goalkeeper, Agustín Julio (Deportes Tolima)
• Defenders, Walter Moreno (Cucuta Deportivo) and Aquivaldo Mosquera (Sevilla, Spain)
• Midfielders, Carlos Sánchez (Valencieness, France) and José Amaya (Atlético Nacional)
• Forwards, Wason Rentería (Strasbourg, France) and Falcao (River Plate, Argentina)

I’m really excited and optimistic about the next matches, both at home against Venezuela (17-11-2007 21.10 GMT) and Argentina (21-11-2007 00.50 GMT), but I will talk about those matches on another posts.
