Here we go again…
The road to the next world cup slowly makes its way as numerous international teams participated in friendly matches. A total of 53 friendlies were played and Colombia did its part in tying to Bolivia in the difficult altitude of La Paz.
As we can all remember, in the past qualifying round, Bolivia was able to not only steal three points from the world cup qualifiers, Argentina, but beat them at and overwhelming score of 6-0. The new Colombian coach, Bolillo Gomez was said to be much satisfied with the 1-1 score and reported that even though the team still had a lot of work ahead of it, he was satisfied with being able to come out with a tie in Bolivia.
The young and rising players on the the team showed a lot of endurance and confidence against a Bolivian team who is used to the high altitude of the field. Carlos Bacca, a leading goal scorer in the national league for Junior de Barranquilla, was able to show Gomez what he is capable of by scoring the only goal for Colombia. Gomez is now confident that his team will be able to work hard in able to perform well in not only the next qualifying round but in the following “copa america.” Even though it is still very early to depict which teams will eventually make it, its never to early to start making plans and that is exactly what Gomez is attempting to do.
Colombia’s next international friendly is against Mexico in September. I believe this match will show us how ready Colombia is to begin its training to hopefully reach the next world cup in Brazil. Mexico recently also played a friendly against the reigning world cup champions, Spain and was surprisingly able to come out with a 1-1 tie. The next four years will tell us a lot about how things will go and hopefully this new coach for Colombia will bring us a lot of joy and celebration. VAMOS COLOMBIA NOJODA!!!
